After an exciting start in Brunei, we continued our journey with a short flight to Kota Kinabalu, the lively capital of Sabah, Malaysia. There is other ways to travel between the countries but we decided that flying was the easiest way. Right beside the airport there is a sport center with an outside pool. We checked in here for a couple of hours of swim.
We spent three full days exploring this vibrant city and its beautiful surroundings. The city itself is a fascinating mix of modern malls, bustling night markets, and traditional street food stalls. We wandered along the waterfront, watched the colorful sunsets and ice cold beers, and sampled everything from fresh seafood to spicy local dishes at the famous Filipino Market.
One of our absolute highlights was a snorkeling trip to the nearby islands. Crystal-clear waters, colorful corals, and playful fish made for a perfect day at sea. We even had the chance to relax on white sandy beaches between swims, enjoying the tropical vibe.
Another day when the rain was pouring down , we visited the Crocodile Farm just outside the city. It’s home to hundreds of crocodiles of all sizes, from tiny babies to enormous giants. It was both thrilling and slightly terrifying to see them up close – definitely an unforgettable experience!

After three active days, it was time to move on. We hopped on a bus organized by River Junkie, ready for our next adventure heading towards Sandakan
