A Special Day at Sepilok: Meeting Agop and Exploring Borneo’s Wildlife Sanctuaries

Well after the jungle experience we went back to Sepilok for our final days in Borneo. And it was one of the most heartwarming and unforgettable days of our trip.

We started the morning with a visit to the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (Official Site). This amazing place works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and eventually release orangutans back into the wild.

We attended the morning feeding session, where young orangutans swing down from the trees to pick up fruits and play around the platform. It was incredible to see them so close, free to come and go as they pleased.

In the middle of the day, we also visited the nearby Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. These small bears, the world’s smallest bear species, are just as fascinating — and so full of character! It was moving to learn about the center’s efforts to protect these endangered animals and see them up close in a naturalistic environment.

Later in the afternoon, we returned to Sepilok for the evening feeding. It’s a completely different atmosphere — quieter, with the setting sun casting a warm glow over the forest.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was adopting our very own orangutan: a sweet one-year-old named Agop. Knowing that we are helping support her journey back to the wild made the day even more meaningful.

Sepilok is a truly magical place, and we left with full hearts and a deep respect for the work being done here to protect Borneo’s wildlife.
