A Magical Farewell to Borneo: Sepilok and Fireflies

Our last day on Borneo has been nothing short of magical.

We spent the daytime exploring more of Sepilok, soaking up the last moments among the lush rainforest and the rich wildlife. It’s hard to believe how quickly we’ve grown attached to this place – the sounds, the smells, the feeling of being surrounded by pure nature.

In the evening, we joined a special river cruise to see the fireflies. These tiny, glowing insects lit up the mangroves like twinkling Christmas lights. It felt almost surreal, watching their synchronized flashes in the dark night.

To top off the evening, we even spotted a crocodile lurking silently along the riverbank — a thrilling reminder that the jungle never sleeps.

Our time on Borneo has been absolutely magical. Every day has been an adventure, and every encounter — expected or not — has added to the experience.

One thing we’ve truly learned is the importance of patience when seeking out wildlife in its natural habitat. You can never guarantee what you’ll see — and that’s part of the magic. Nature plays by its own rules.

Borneo has delivered beyond all expectations, and we are already dreaming of one day coming back.
